BIOS13 is Masterβs level course in mathematical modelling of biological systems coordinated by Mikael Pontarp. It is a very ambitious course, in that it does not assume prior programming experience and only basic high school maths. Yet, by the end, the students are extremely capable in both addressing biological questions using pen & paper mathematics, and then implementing those ideas in code, using R.
As a teaching assistant on this course, I help students over the hurdle of daughting looking maths/code and help them realise that their intuition on how to approach ideas (from their knowledge as biologists) is very often correct. It is a challenging course, for me included, but very rewarding.
